Linda Thielke received her MSc in Meteorology from the University of Hamburg, Germany, in September 2019. During her masters she studied one semester Arctic Geophysics at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) in Spring 2018. In October 2019, she started her PhD in the junior research group of remote sensing of the polar regions in the Institute of Environmental Physics at the University of Bremen.
Her main research interests are in physical sea ice processes in the Arctic. Within her project she works with thermal helicopter-borne images from the MOSAiC expedition to monitor sea ice properties in the winter season. Based on gridded high-resolution surface temperatures, she investigates small-scale properties of leads and melt ponds. Her main goal is to advance thermal infrared satellite remote sensing during the polar night for Arctic sea ice.
